Teeth whitening is a safe, easy, effective way to improve the aesthetics of your smile. It is completely non-invasive, unlike veneers or crowns, so you can maintain the integrity of your healthy tooth structure.
Types of Teeth Whitening
Nova Dental Partners offers two types of professional teeth whitening services: Opalescence® take-home whitening and in-office Philips Zoom whitening. Both methods are very effective at whitening teeth but require different levels of time commitment and result time.
The most common method of whitening done at our office is the 20% Opalescence take-home kit. For this method, custom trays are made to fit your teeth and are filled with whitening gel so you can whiten your teeth at your convenience. Opalescence whitening is used for a few hours every day for ten to 14 days. Maintenance applications can be done every few months to keep your smile its whitest.
In-office Philips Zoom whitening requires you to visit our office for a few hours. The one-time whitening procedure results in immediate whitening, so you don’t need to wait to see results. Philips Zoom whitening can be repeated to maintain your results.
When should you whiten your teeth?
The best time to whiten teeth is after your dental cleaning at our Alexandria, Fairfax, or Woodbridge offices, because your teeth are cleaned and the surface stains have been removed. This allows the whitening gel to penetrate the tooth more effectively.
Is teeth whitening right for you?
The good news is that almost everyone can improve the look of their smiles with teeth whitening. In some cases, teeth may whiten more or less, depending on the type of tooth staining you have. Additionally, any crowns, implants, or veneers you have will not whiten like your natural teeth, so keep that in mind when choosing the level of whiteness you desire.
